Parreรฑo recalled that at around 9:00 p.m., after arriving near a McDonald’s branch from school, she noticed a crowd gathered around a man in distress. When Uba asked if she had a blood pressure apparatus, she promptly retrieved her kit and began checking the man’s vital signs. She observed that he was unable to move his right arm and that the right side of his face was drooping. The man shared that he had collapsed while driving after losing sensation in his right leg. As they waited for the ambulance, his child arrived and revealed that similar symptoms had occurred earlier that morning. Despite the uncertainty of the situation, Parreรฑo remained composed, positioning the patient properly and monitoring him until responders arrived.
Dean Mercy Milagros Apuhin from the College of Nursing stated, “I am deeply proud of our nursing students, who have once again shown that compassion is at the heart of genuine health care. In the face of challenging circumstances, they responded with empathy kindness and professionalism - embodying the essential values our college stands for. Their actions remind us that Nursing is not only a science but also a calling to serve humanity with dignity and care.”
The incident underscores the value of preparedness and presence of mind in emergencies. Parreรฑo’s response reflects how training, awareness, and willingness to act can make a critical difference.
